Hello all, well i finally got time to install a fuel/water seperator filter on my 98 omc 115 intruder after reading about all the ethenol issues with water in tank kind of makes me a little worried since i have been running without one. Now i have a coulpe of questions about these water seperators, my local marina sold me a yamaha water sep filter with a 90 gal flow rate even though i dont need that much floe rate , they have a yamaha mni ten filter for my 115 but thats the tops this filter will run so he said i should run the larger water seperator if i had the room to mount it which i did so thas what i purchased a lot more filter area, my second question is will the filter affect the vro fuel/oil pump not enough suction to keep the system

Re: Fuel/water seperator filter

I am not sure I understand the first question. However, many boats with your motor run a water seperator without any problems. Make sure you clean the main strainer and get rid of any other filters, when you install the water seperator. Are you running 3/8" ID fuel lines? If not, it might be a good idea.

Re: Fuel/water seperator filter

Sorry chris , my first question was i put on a larger can fuel/water seperator the yamaha 90 flow rate model which has the tall can will this hurt my fuel pump diaphragms in the vro pump omc states the filter should not have a pressure drop of no more than 0.4 hg and have a filter area of 200 sq feet and a minium of 20 gal per hr which i will exceed that i have three eights fuel line already.

Thanks alley mechanic

I believe they're saying "No less than 20gph" and yours will do 90gph so shouldn't be an issue. You can always confirm flow rate if you're worried about it, but I don't think having "too much" fuel will be an issue.

Re: Fuel/water seperator filter

Thanks for that information, but i have a couple of questions, will the yamaha 10 micron water/seperating filter restrict my fuel flow or damage my vro/oil fuel pump today i had it in the lakebacked it off trailer than put it in forward xcelerated a little and heard from inside motor cowl some clicks like the vro pump did i have some air pocket still in filter that it pumped out engine ran fine wide open no problem 6000 rpm. Could can you hear the vro pump cycle if no fuel in it i ran it at home first to check for leaks did not here it click, maybe someone could chime in here. Thank you
