Fuel

I know this has been asked before, but using my boat I would like a bit of input. I have a Winner (1977) with a Chevy 5.7 (Mercuriser 250) A1 pushing approx 5200 pounds. what can I expect for fuel useage. 2500, 3200, 3800 RPM<br /><br />Thanks for any help.

Keep the engine well tuned, check the compression yearly to make sure all is well keep the timing, the advance timing, dwell all in specs. Keep the bottom of the boat clean, and keep track of the fuel usage you have at the different speeds. All boats are different, so don't get your hopes up that your fuel usage will match someone elses.

Chief, I fully realize tuning is half the battle, what I am trying to do is establish a benchmark compared with other boaters with Winners or SeaRay's of comparable weight and size. I am looking at taking a trip and any information gained would be helpful.

I am planning a trip to Bimni next summer.<br />I don't have a fuel flow meter. <br />I really don't want to run out of fuel 3/4 of the way there.<br />Here is what I did to establish a fuel burn rate:<br /><br />Loaded boat with all sorts of heavy odds and sends to simulate added crap we would drag along with us.<br />Topped off tank on way to lake (on a deserted weekday that had air temperatures similar to that crossing)<br />Launched and drove around for 2 hours at my expected cruising RPM.<br />Pulled boat out, topped off tank again.<br />I now have a really good idea on what my fuel burn rate would be.
