Fuse a float switch or not

I'm getting ready to wire a float switch to the bilge pump in my boat. I have an on off switch on the dash. Planning to run a hot to the float switch directly from the battery. Then run the normally open side of the switch to the bilge pump and tie in to the power wire from the dash so I still can use it manually. Question is do I fuse the hot wire from the battery or not. I keep seeing differing opinions. Thanks

If the power wire is directly attached to the battery then yes it needs to be fused for the maximum rated ampacity of the conductor.
