Hello,
Today was the first nice day of spring (without wind anyway) so the wife and i decided to uncover the boat and take the kids down to the local lake for some fishing and sun.
Well, in my excitement, while getting the freshly charged batteries installed back in the boat ( cranking and trolling ) i wired the cranking backwards ( yep, tell me what a dummy i am, i have been telling myself that now for hours ). Anyway, after the big spark i and realizing what i had done, i started researching and hunting for what i had broke.
So here is where i need help. My boat is a 2006 Tahoe Q4 Fish & Ski with 190 hp 4.3 mercruiser (v6 vortec). After my little mishap I tried everything on the boat that had an on/off switch and everything works except when i try to start it, i get nothing (not even a click). So, After talking to a good friend of mine who is good with all things that have a motor and also calling the repair shop of dealer where i bought the boat, the consensus is that i 'blew' the fusible link. I have searched these forums and the net and have found some info on them. However i can not find a replacement online anyway. My dealer repair man said he would be "happy" to fix it for 110 dollars or so. (seems alot to replace a blown fuse...yes? or no?) My close friend said it is possible to pull that one out and replace with a 50 amp automotive inline fuse and holder...Is this okay? or bad idea? I did go through the 'HOW TO: Troubleshooting your engines starting system' by 'Don S.' Which is a great guide! but when i tried to check ignition system i have no power at all at the 'b' terminal of the ignition switch (is this because the fusible link is blown or do i have another issue?
For the record, Battery is fully charged, Terminals are clean, Cables are almost in brand new condition, Remote was dbl checked to be in neutral and wiggled vigorously.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, respectfully, Shad :)

Re: Fusible Link

On the starter solenoid you should find a 90A fuse like shown below. There is a red/purple wire attached to it that goes to the engine circuit breaker, then on to the ignition switch.
Check the circuit breaker and see if there is power to it, if not, the square fuse is probably at fault, a meter will tell you for sure.
They run about 25 bucks.

Re: Fusible Link

Thanx Don S,
Checked the circuit breaker on top of the engine. No power to it. In the process of trying to find the fuse kit (79023a91) locally, if i cant find it by the end of the day i will order one online. Found a site with one for 22 and some change before shipping. Does this also explain why there is NO power at ignition switch like your guide says (should be power to terminal B)?

Yes, the power to the switch comes from the circuit breaker. No power to that breaker means you won't have power from it and on to your ignition switch.

Re: Fusible Link

Repairs Complete! Had a friend come over and help me get the link installed, well, actuallly he did it all, i just handed him tools. Entire replacement took him about 10 minutes, which amazes me considering how little room there is to work on that side of the motor.
Anyway, I want to extend my thanks very very much to iboat forums and especially to Don S. The information and helpfullness found here is a great resource. Thank you!!! Shad :):D:p:D:)
