OK....here goes....
I am installing a FWC system on my Mercruiser 165 IL6. I am piecing together a system from parts found on ebay and such (with alot of help from bondo!). I will not be able to use preformed hoses. I am thinking of using copper and sweating elbows and other connectors to make some of the connections. I was also thinking of using PVC to make "step-ups" or "step-down" adapters if I have to go from on size hose to another. Would the coolant "eat" the PVC?
Any other ideas out there?

I mentioned this in your other post,
By inserting coil springs of proper sizes, You Can bend a hose to fit your needs, Without Collapse........

I am thinking of using copper and sweating elbows and other connectors to make some of the connections.
Some of this Might be Necessary,
But, Long runs of Copper Tubing is Very Crack Prone, due to Vibrations + such.....
I was also thinking of using PVC to make "step-ups" or "step-down" adapters if I have to go from on size hose to another.
This is where you'll want to swet up some copper/brass Fittings.......
Would the coolant "eat" the PVC?
the 3 hardest words for a man to utter.....
I Don't Know........ :D

Where can I find these springs? How tight of a bend can I make? The return from the H/E to the circ pump is kinda close together. I am going to have to make a 'S' shape.

Where can I find these springs?
At a Better Hardware Store ?????
Off an old Bedspring ????
Off Your Frontdoor ????
Etc.????
You have to figure out what Dia. First.....
How tight of a bend can I make?
As Tight as the Spring will Bend.......
The return from the H/E to the circ pump
Tony, Forget about the Cir.Pump......
Your Cool-Water return to motor line will attach to the Same Fitting that Is the Outdrive Feed Line in your "after" link.........

Re: FWC Custom Fittings/Hoses (recvd end cap)

bondo....why shouldn't I connect the H/E the way it is shown in the manual (except that I will add the manifold into the freshwater path)? I don't think I will get the proper flow if I just replace the existing "in" and "out" of the raw water with the H/E. All of the diagrams show the H/E connected to the circ pump and the output from the thermo housing going to the manifolds...and back to the H/E.

Ethylene glycol (standard anti-freeze) and Propylene glycol (Sierra brand enviro-friendly)are not very reactive chemicals. However, I couldn't find their effect on PVC listed in my tables. I would avoid the use of PVC with hot water though. You should be able to buy bronze fittings to adapt to various hose sizes easily. You could also find nylon fittings which are much more chemical and heat stable than PVC.

Make sure you use stainless springs. You can wind your own on a lathe around a dowel of the right size. If you do this, use stainless spring steel.

You Can............ :)
Where are you going to add the manifold circuit ????

Look on page 349.....
The T-stat housing you have Now, does the Same Job....
The circ pump Only moves the water Allowed by the T-stat.....
While the T-stat is Closed, water is allowed to move along the manifold,+ return to the H/E.....
I Think , If you use the dia. on page 356,
The water Can't move,+ the manifold is going to get Hot... Before the T-stat opens.....
By using the by-pass T-stat housing, Convection, along with 1 or 2, 1/8th" holes drilled in the T-stat shoulder, will help cool the manifold, till the block heats up....

I plan on ading the manifold to the output of the thermostat housing, this is where I was going to tee-in the bypass so the manifold would get some flow before the thermostat opened.

That's my point...... ;)
Using the dia. on page356,
There Is NO By-pass.... NO Water Flow.....
As long as the T-stat is Closed, the water is Static.... No Flow.......

I don't think the flow or cooling capability would be the same by putting the H/E in place of my raw water connection that I have now. The manual shows the H/E before the circ pump and after the manifold......I hope your offer still stands on the end plate! It's supposed to be 45 here on Saturday and I am going to get under the cover and take a measurement.

Re: FWC Custom Fittings/Hoses (recvd end cap)

Not a Problem Tony.......
If you study the dia.s on page 349, lower left side of the page shows that the T-stat you have Now, Actually Feeds Water Directly To the Pump..... It's a Straight Pass Through Port....But Still Allows for flow thru the manifold....
You Already Have the Flow Patterns you Need.....

Like I said, It's Your Boat... Do Anything You Want..... I'll Still be here for Support..... ;)

Re: FWC Custom Fittings/Hoses (recvd end cap)

ok bondo, I measured the end cap.
The bolts appear to be ~ 3" on center. Let me know if you have one..........or else I will have to find another one.........I like the idea of the end cap instead of the nipple....
Thanks again.....Tony

If you go to a good hose shop (Greenline in my area) you can get a variety of preformed hoses. IMHO it's a slightly better way to go than the spring trick, although I've seen both ways done well.

Hi bondo..........

Nope...didn't get it yet...was hoping to get it today so I could play with it.

I also saw them online after you sent yours! You have click on the inline 6 link and then scroll down the page. They also have the plate to block off the manifold from the elbow and the gaskets.
I will let you know how I make out. Thanks again!
