OK....I tested the boat on the water today after repostioning the H/E today (see earlier post) The boat ran perfect, temp didn't continue to rise as before. The temp seemed to top out at ~180. This was running at 3000rpms for a while. When going through a no wake zone, the temp was at ~150. I have a 160 deg thermostat installed. Is 180 OK? Or is this still too hot? I am concerned that when the water temp in the bay warms up the engine temp will rise also. The bay temp today was ~50. When the bay temp goes to 60 will my engine temp go to 190? If I use a lower themostat will the 180 go down?

I'm almost there!

ALso, I added an overflow tank. When the engine warms-up the fluid rises in the overflow tank, but when it cools down the fluid doesn't return to the H/E. Could this mean that the system isn't air tight and it's "sucking" air in from someplace? I have a 7lb cap on the H/E.

Felt great to be back on the water running again........even caught a few flounders!

Where'd ya catch those flounder? I was in Raritan Bay today, didn't catch a thing!

Sorry, can't help ya on the temp issue. I have a FWC system, but I have no T-stat. I run about 140-150 all the time.

Caught the flounder in Fire Island Inlet, near the Sore Thumb. I did a search on the operating temp, it looks like I may be right on target. Still wanna hear from some of the guys on here for their opinion.....

hey bondo....... :p

Hi Tony,

Yep,
I Think you're on the way,
To Where you want to be.........
180*, Should be Fine........
Even 190* isn't Bad......
Water Boils at 212*..... Your Good till Then......

My Guess Is,
In the Newer style Auto-Recovery type systems,
The Cap seals on the Top of the Cap-Neck, allowing the fluid to return to the system, from the overflow bottle........
The cap-neck on your's Might be sealing on the lower flange of the neck, Rather than the Top Lip......

I don't know if you can get it to work right or not.....
The H/E Doesn't Have to be Full, To the Top, when Cold......
Just leave enough room for the Normal Expansion........

thanks bondo.........

So in order to get the fluid to go back into the H/E, I may just have to change the cap? How can I tell which cap I have? I just bouth it at Auto Barn.

What about the increase in the raw water temp?
Will this cause the cooalnt temp to rise?

Not Sure Tony.......
I Do Know, It needs to Seal on the Upper Most Lip.....
Maybe When the Ocean Temps get up to 190*, or so.............. :D

If You're That Concerned,
Go to a 140* T-stat..........
I Think It's Right Where it Should Be.........
