A bunk rattled loose on my trailer and fell off going down the road. the remaining support bracket gouged a deep hole in my hull.2 things: #1 stay alert while driving: being half asleep at the wheel I didn't notice the boat sitting crooked for 20 miles and had to back track quite a ways to retrieve bunk, #2 my chinsey jon boat trailer had lag bolts holding the bunks on, the lag bolts rattled loose and fell out (and are probably in someone's tire). when I repair it I'm going to use through bolts.

Re: FYI keep an eye on bunks

I bought a used boat oct 2010. We used it almost all season 2011 before having any problems with bunks. The carpet looked fine so i had no reason to investigate. One night while loading one of the center bunks pulled away from the lag screws. Dug two big gashes in the hull. I felt pretty dumb to say the least. INSPECT YOUR BUNKS!.......lesson learned, the hard way.

Putting some thread sealer, aka marine sealant goop, in the hole will keep the lag screws from moving as the wood ages.
