I am looking at a 2002 G3 PF165. Everytime I google G3 boats for feedback I see a post about transoms rotting out from the plywood that was installed in these boats in the earlier years. Has anyone actually seen this problem or is this hype. This is about the plywood causing the Aluminum to rot out, not the plywood rotting just to clarify.

Re: G3 boat purchase opinions

PT plywood against aluminum will cause issues, but that isn't something one would expect a reputable boat maker (which G3 is by all accounts) to do. Gotta be more to the story. Can you elaborate? Maybe provide some examples of the kind of feedback you're encountering? Also, you could always call G3 and ask them about it. Welcome aboard.

Re: G3 boat purchase opinions

My 03 G3 1860 evedently has wood sandwiched between aluminum @ the transom as seen when I raised the motor mount a few years ago. I also tried to crush it when I retightened the mount bolts to much. On my boat it cannot get wet unless the lower mount holes are not sealed or the bilge fills with water or the boat sinks:eek:. There is also plywood under my front deck. I've had no issues w mine w a 375lb 4 stroke hung on it. The transom was slightly bowed in around the mount when I bought it used, but it does not flex. PS I love my G3 it does everything I wanted/expected it to do well.
