Just bought a 1962 5hp seaking motor. It runs great but after a few minutes the lower unit below the motor got pretty warm. I know this water pump doesn't discharge a visible stream, but is there any way to test if it is working?
Appreciate the help.

Pull the lower unit and check/replace the water pump and impeller. If it gets too hot to touch, the pump/impeller aren't working...seizure is imminent in that scenario. Don't risk it.

If you aren't sure about the pump, or when it was last replaced, do it now. Even if it is pumping like a fire hose, that doesn't mean it will next week--or this afternoon. Knowing you have a good pump in there is your best insurance.

How hot is hot? That is the exhaust housing below the powerhead and has fire inside. It also has a spray of cooling water in there to keep it reasonably cool. So expect it to be quite warm but not real hot.
