Hi all,

I just got a Gale Soverign 35Hp outboard and was told that they are the same as the old Johnson/Evinrude. I have very little compression on the top cylindre 30lbs and 120lbs on the bottom. Any suggestions on how to eliminate different possibe causes without tearing the engine too much apart? I am not sure where I can get gaskets for it. Could a top crank seal be one possibility?

In addition to what I already told you in reply to your e-mail, you cn remove the bypass cover on the upper cylinder and see the side of the piston and rings for clues. If you don't see any problem there, off with the head. I told you where to get gaskets.
