Galvanized pontoons

Hello all
I'm planing to build a 7 meter pontoon boat I've been researching building my own
Pontoons and I've come to the conclusion aluminum is the way to go. How ever can someone please tell me if it is possible to build them out of steel and hot dip galvanize
Them? The only reason I'm asking this is because I am able to weld steel but have never welded aluminum and I'm on a tight budget so the more I can do myself the better.Please keep in mind 98% of the time the boat will be keep on a trailer and not perminetly moored . Any info regarding this topic would be greatly appreciated

Yes you can build them out of steel, but it is not practical. If you are on a tight budget, look for a project pontoon with good toons and build from there. If you look hard enough, you'll find one for little, if not less, than the cost of building one from steel. And if you factor in your labor, a project ponoon will certainly be less.

Thanks for your reply I was thinking along the same lines how ever
In australia there aren't to many pontoon boat about , and what is around are holding there value . So unfortunately I don't really have any choice but to make them

Being in Australia will hamper things some.
