galvanized trailer painting?

i have just got a old galvanized trailer that i am looking to paint black, would this hurt the galvanized steel? how would i go about painting it? or is there a way to just shine it up how it is and keep it silver but shine it up some?

Scrub your trailer well first with an alkiline base cleaner in water only. Rinse and allow to dry. Sand the surface well which will remove some of the zinc galvanized. Prime with a good metal primer and paint. Its labor intensive to do it correctly, but a simple process.

A litre of rustfproof paint will give it two coats, I roughed my slightly rusty trailer then brushed it on, looks great and very durable

I have painted over my galvanized trailer in locations with some similar colored spay paint. So far it has stuck just fine, I did not sand or prep the trailer, it had been rinsed well with fresh water.

You could also cold galvanize the trailer... after sanding off the rust spots...

7000 cold gal- great product. Use it regularly on exterior rooftop gas and air Gal piping and large manifold Gal piping. As long as you clean up your material first, really takes the element's well. Also use Cold Gal from SOS brands in a rattle can for smaller app's. Should work great on a trailer IMHO.

I did mine with the cold galvanized spray paint. Works very well and brightens up the look of the trailer.
I think it was Rustoleum or Ace hardware brand paint.

A roller application versus brush will give a factory finish to which ever material you paint it with.
Also a good cleaning with white vinigar will either help prep it for paintinng or may clean up the galvanized finish enough for you.
