Hey guys

Ive never worked on a lower unit with rubber washers (more like O-rings) for the drain and fill screws.

How tight do they need to be, I dont wanna break/damage the rubber drain and fill?

Thanks,

Anyone know? Found 2 different service manuals but none of them mentioned anything about how tight I should tighten it.

Damian there should be no rubber orings used for the drain and vent screws, thats a sure way to fill the lower with water, I use the flat red fiber washers found in many other marine outboard carb kits if I use anything...I have one Eska that I use no washers on it at all because they cause it to leak water in at the fill screw....I find that the finer the thread the less the need for a washer anyway. I also change my gear oil alot which is what I suggest since they hold so very little. Just tighten the screws down as snug as you can and change the fluid often and if anything use a little of the blue hylomar sealant.

I looked up SEARS parts and they had part # 4447 (Seal) for the Vent.
And #4828 for Fill gasket.

Typed in 4447 at Indy boat and Supply and this came up...

Its more of a Oring than a neoprene gasket. I guess Ill do without and seal with that hylo stuff.

The Fill gasket is a neoprene one I think and is larger.

Thanks again,
