Gamefisher 9.9 - how far will a gallon of gas go?

I inherited my fathers Gamefisher 9.9 that he purchased new and lovingly took excellent care of. He left it to his only child that appreciates fishing, his daughter, who needs a little advise. While going out with him many times with this motor I never took the time to notice how much gas we used - can someone give me a little guidance - I will be traveling a total of about 6 miles and want to make sure I have enough fuel. The gas tank is 6 gallons...but my father never filled it - always preferring to put fresh mix in each time he used it so the gas never sat in the tank for long periods in case he couldn't take it out again for a while. I really was hoping someone could say "a gallon will take you approximately ____ many miles"

It depends on the boat and weight you put in it. If motor gets your boat on a plane it would probably take 10-15 minutes to go 3 miles. 10-15 coming back plus a little putting around. A gallon might do it but I would take at least 3. If you have waves or current you will use more. Gallons per hr. might be easier to figure then miles per gallon. Perhaps fuel stablizer might be an option. Get your oil mix right. Sorry about your dad passing.

When I was first married I got my father in laws 14ft John with a Gamfisher 7.5. Tank was probably about the same size as yours. I never kept track of fuel mileage, but we never ran out of gas.

Nice little motor. I gave it and the boat back to him when we moved about eight years ago. He called me one day and told me he just bought a new 6hp, 4-stroke Merc. I asked him if I could have the old Gamefisher. He left it at the curb for the trash collector as soon as he took it off the boat. Some garbage man in Pennsylvania is toolin around with it right about now I suppose.

Watch your tank and keep oars on board. Make sure you go up stream your first few trips, it will make the rowing fly by. But seriously, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Just be cautious your first few trips until you can estimate your range a little better.

Have fun fishing with your daughter.

Thank you - it is just a 14 ft aluminum jon boat with 1-2 average adults being used on a river or lake. I never thought about gallon per hour...such a better concept! I have so much to learn - wish I had paid better attention to Dad! The oil mix is 50:1 if I have done my research right. What does a fuel stabilizer do?

Fuel stablizer keeps your gas from spoiling. If you are not going to use boat for a while add some to tank. Some people unplug the gas line and run motor out of fuel and the end of season. There is a nice measuring container for getting your oil mix right. It coast a couple bucks. Sold at Walmart or any boat store. Have fun.
