Could someone please tell me what I should set the gap to on my '72 evinrude 9 1/2. Half the people I talk to tell me .030, and another third say to set it to .040. Does anyone know the correct setting? Thanks

Brent

Re: gap setting

Brett.... The spark plugs on a 1972 9-1/2hp Evinrude should be Champion J6C plugs with the gap set at .030 .

The ignition point gap should be .020 .

(That .040 setting you mention is strictly for the later model engines using QL77JC4 etc type plugs that have solid state ignition)
