Fellow boaters,

I'm in need off help picking out a new garboard drain assembly or which one I could order off iboats.:joyous: (or elsewhere if they don't have the specific size) Also would prefer it to be in bronze and not brass. Boat will be in freshwater only.

I removed my previous one with just my fingers after just taking the screws out. It was previously sealed with gorilla glue. After removing, it looks like the previous owner had replaced it with the current one that is incorrect by viewing the gouge marks.

I?m trying to get the correct size or if the garboard is actually the correct type that should be on my boat. When I loosened it I could wiggle it almost a 1/4-1/2 inch in the hole area. It does not fit tight in the slightest. I felt around and poked with a screwdriver and the wood is solid.

Should I be looking at one with a longer tube to fit correctly? The hole is slightly under 1 ? inch. Should I drill it slightly larger and install a larger garboard?

Already got the 3m 5200 handy.

Thanks in advance for the help.

as long as the flange covers the hole and has enough extra for you to screw into the transom, I don't see the need to buy a bigger assembly. I'd apply Marine Tex or other marine epoxy around the inside circumference of the hole. That will seal the exposed transom wood, and reduce the size of the hole. Once that's dry and the outside edge is smoothed so that the new flange sits evenly against the transom, use your 5200 and screws to secure it.

If you're set on buying a bigger flange, just increase the size of the drain hole if you need to, but seal the exposed wood with epoxy as I mentioned above.. No harm.

Just changed mine about a month ago. Like others said, seal it good with 5200 and make sure the screws have a good grip in the transom and you will be good to go. And don't forget to put some 5200 on the screws to seal up the screw holes/threads.
