I have 2001 Johnson 150 Ocean Pro. I have been flushing the motor after saltwater use using muffs.

In looking over the manual, it seems that the pee streem is actually comming out a plastic plug that can be removed to facilitate connecting a garden hose??? Is this correct??? Do I need a special adapter???? I don't want to go removing what I think is a plug and it really isn't.

Is flushing from a garden hose connection to the upper section of the motor as effective as flushing using muffs? I am of the impression that by flushing with the muffs that I am also cleaning out the water intake lines of salt & sediment.

Please educate a novice outboard motor owner.

Re: Garden Hose to flush motor???

i agree with your present method. the other is for motors that are moored or dock all the time.

Re: Garden Hose to flush motor???

That Johnny offers a choice of flushing methods. If you use the high port, you can add a quick connect for the garden hose, and it will flush the entire motor, top to bottom. The motor can be flushed running or not, up or down. This is useful if the boat is left in the water. You are not supposed to tilt the motor up during the flushing process, however.

If you use the muffs, the motor needs to be running to flush it.
