Friend of mine is giving me a nice small 14' aluminium and I'm going to transfer my 15hp Suzuki motor over to it. On my fiberglass I put a piece of 3/4" red oak play wood on the outside back before I installed the Garelick jack plate bc the transom is oddly shaped kinda like a triangle so I needed to in order to level it out. Should I do the same with the 14' aluminium? The transom is completely flat so I don't have the same problem as fiberglass, there's also wood the width and height of the boat in the back.

if it mates up flat, and you have enough thickness/strength already I see no need but overbuilding is usually not a bad route to take.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Has a new transom as well so maybe I won't need it but I guess every little bit helps, just don't want to get to much weight on the back.
