garmin 178c

I recently installed a garmin178c gps/depthsounder<br />on a 20foot alaskan lund then made a 250 mile river trip the unit worked fine and read the bottom flawlessly all the way at any speed .last weekend on the lake depth reading kept cutting out completly or flashing intermitantly. I SUSPECT i might have hit a stick in the water with the transducer but thier is no mark on it.<br />How can I trouble shoot to determine if problem is the fish finder or the transducer???<br />Yukon Float

Sounds like air getting between the xducer and the water, YF. Does this happen only at speed or all the time?

It even happens when I am sitting still and the transponder is sumbmerged 6 inches
