Garmin Antenna Installation -- HELP

I tried to fish the antenna wire with connector (on a 182) through my hardtop to the electronics box. However, when I pulled out the antenna cable at the electronics box, the cable was shredded. The connector is still on but around an inch after the connector, the wire is shredded and the metal sheathing is exposed. Can anyone recommend what my next step should be?
Should I cut the connector and an inch of wire off and put a new connector on? Should I attemp using it as is? or should I send it back to Garmin?

Re: Garmin Antenna Installation -- HELP

Contact Garmin first off and ask if you can just cut the wire. I'm assuming this is going to a GPS receiver?

I wouldn't think coax length wouldn't be that critical on a receive unit.

I personally seal my coax on each end with solder and heat shrink or other special connector sealers. Moisture can find it's way into coax and ruin it and possibly your radio (especially if you are transmitting)

Good Luck,

H.

Just cut it off and install a new connector. I had to cut the connector off of mine to get it thru a bulkhead fitting. Make sure and use a good connector. They make some really nice easy to install marine connector now a days
