Hi everyone. I bought a boat with a gpsmap 180 in it. When you turn it on and try use it, it reads searching for satellite. It never finds one no matter how long you wait. I thought maybe it was the antenna but it looks good as well as the connections. Any ideas?

Re: Garmin Gpsmap 180 Question

Does the antenna have a clear view of the sky?

Garmin's website has excellent tech support. I would go there.

Re: Garmin Gpsmap 180 Question

I would disconnect the antenna from the back of the unit and make sure the pins are clean and the other side of connector is also clean. Put it back on and turn 1/4 turn to lock on.

Go to page 1 and 2 and intilize the GPS for you part of the world. First time turned on in a long while then it can take a while but you should see satelites bars start to fill in. If it does not come up then I check the voltage to the unit and check for broken wires between unit and antenna.

BINGO, you were right. the center wire of the antenna was pulled out just enough. Thanks for the help.
