How come nothing I have read so far indicated that I had to put gas in the Rancor filter before I installed it.

I was ready to haul it back to the mechanic until a friend stopped by and wanted to hear it run. Suzuki DT140 2-Stroke with oil pump bypass, for a gas-oil mix.

I have replaced all fuel lines & added a flow meter, 2 fiilters, new sending unit, bulb and finally connectors.

Fortunately for me, he knew how outboards worked and at the same time, reminded me of just how much I really don't know.

Hope this helps someone else . . .

I've never put gas in one at installation. Not sure I would want to if I could.

On a carburated motor you can start it and let run for a couple of seconds then shut off. Replace the filter and fire the motor back up. You should have enough fuel left in the bowls to fill the filter.

If that doesn't work disconnect the fuel line somewhere after the primer bulb and use the primer bulb to fill the filter.

you guys are correct. (as if there was any doublt). I replaced all fuel lines, added both filters and a flow meter.

Then I let the boat sit too long before i tried to start it. Should have treated it as a new engine install.

But am learning something new every time I touch the boat.

filling the canister, just takes less pumping to prime the system, easier on my arthritic hands.
