gas fuem smell while running @ high speed

I have a 1988 17' Rinker with a 3.0 merc I/O set up. This year for some reason when I am running at fast throttle there is a gas fune smell in the boat. Have no gas leakage, no gas in water when sitting, no smell when idelling or slow throttle. Exhaust seems to be exiting the rear ok. Stumped????????? What should I look for?

Does it really smell like Gas or Exhaust? Running full throttle I am suprised you can smell anything but the wind in your face.

Do you have a canvas top on when underway? Sometimes the airflow over the canopy can cause a negative pressure area that can draw air from the the stern area forward to the helm area.<br /><br />cm

I think it's exhaust smell. No canopy. If the vents on the side of the boat were blocked somehow, would that cause the smell?
