Gas/oil mix for old sears motor.

About a 1965 sears motor.<br /><br />Fins on motor so believe it is air cooled.<br />4 HP<br />Ted Williams model.<br />No i.d. tags available.<br /><br />Any ideas???

I believe it's a 24:1 ratio 1 Quart TCW-3 oil to 6 Gal Gas for that motor. Others will chime in with more info. Depends on the type of bearing it has.

Don't use TC-W3 in an air cooled engine. They run a lot hotter than water cooled (the W in TC-W3).<br /><br />24:1 should be okay, but watch for overheating. That Power Products engine was designed for chainsaws that called for 16:1.<br /><br />Use chainsaw oil or other 2 stroke oil designated for air cooled engines.<br /><br />Good luck.

My info and I quote from an aftermarket service manual, "use Outboard motor oil."GAO oil site lists TCW3 rated oil for Clinton and ESKA among other air cooled motors. I have a 20 year old<br />McCulloch chain saw that has never had anything but outboard 2 cycle oil.And it has allways been run hard and mostly ignored.Kind of wonder where<br /> this caution on oils came from?
