Gas pouring out of the carbs

I have a 1988 bayliner capri. Has the 125 force motor. I just picked this boat up this week. Got it running good. My only issue is that when i turn the motor off, gas comes pouring out the front of the carbs. Its coming from behind both butterfly valves. What can cause this?

welcome aboard.

most likely your carbs need to be rebuilt. I would suspect that both of your carb's needle and seat have long since deteriorated.

I second Scott's assessment. Time to rebuild those carbs...

I have rebuilt both carbs. They have all new internals. The gas is coming back out of the intake. I shut off the motor and the gas comes pouring out. So you think it could be the reeds?

I can't think how excess gas can come out of the intake after the engine is shut off. Something doesn't sound right there. Are you absolutely certain that gas isn't coming from some place on the carb or choke system? The only other thing I can possible think of is the actual fuel pump. If your fuel pump has a diaphragm hole, it could be pulling gas in through the fuel pump and coming out. But then I would think the engine would be running like crap as well. But check that anyway...

Yeah I'm positive it's coming from the intake. I had a friend sit there and watch through the carbs while I turned off the engine. I'm not very knowledgeabl about motors. This is my first boat.

Now is the motor tilted when gas starts pouring out of the carb's bore when you shut it down? If it is that is perfectly normal. If it is not tilted, something is not working properly. Post a pic so we can analyze what you are trying to say.

Can I upload videos on this forum? If so I will take a video tonight when i am off work. And the motor is slightly tilted. It pours out about. A tablespoon of gas out of each carb.

Your needles and seats need attention

Just a suggestion, when carbs were rebuilt did you replace the floats? They may be saturated with fuel and unable to seat needle. Check proper float adjustment too.

No you cannot upload a video but you sure can upload pics. However, you can upload a video on utube and then post a link on your post.

Figured out the issue. The hose that runs from the carb mounts was plugged. My issue now is that I can't get the boat to go more than 5 mph. Full throttle it sounds like its not getting gas.

A simple pic of the hoses in question would have expedited resolution to this problem.

Please post some pictures so we may see what hose was plugged.

After reading this I was going to say your float is set to high letting the fuel bowl fill up to much resulting in the fuel having no choice but to exit the emulsion tube and into the venturi in the carb and leak out the intake- However- if youd do us all a favor and take a picture of your said hose that would be awesome for everyone to see-
