I have a 70 hp Johnson outboard and the fuel pump is spitting gas out the back (through the tiny hole in the back of the fuel pump). I've attached a picture of the fuel pump. What would cause this to happen or is this normal operation. I've recently changed the gasket under the front plastic cover.

ive replied to your other thread, im pretty sure there should be a small gasket there that isnt shown in the diagrams. It has three holes, one for the crankcase opening and two for the bolts

Thanks again, you wouldn't happen to have a part number or picture of it?

hatboat, your question isn't clear. Your picture doesn't show a "tiny hole in back". Are you referring to a hole in the backside of the fuel pump, near the top? If it is squirting out that hole, the diaphragm is shot, and you need a fuel pump repair kit, available here at iboats.
