Check your firing order. If it ran before you put the new wires on, then you may have the wires in the wrong locations.

Wires are in correct order I went off the book to install them. I'm just lost as to what it could be

Did you replace the wires one at a time? Or take them all off then replace? A previous distributor-removing episode may have had someone have to put the wires on at a different starting post than the book shows.

Is the distributor loose? Meaning, did it turn any when you removed the cap and replaced it?

Did the new parts look like the old parts?

If the engine was running OK before you replaced those parts then this almost has to be the plug wire firing order. It could be that the #1 plug position on the distributor cap on your engine is not where it shows in the book for some reason. Are you sure the #1 plug wire is in the same location on the distributor cap now as the one you removed?

If you are not sure the #1 wire is in the same spot as before, AND you are certain the wires are connected to the distributor in the correct firing order now then try shifting them around the cap one position at a time, keeping them in the same order, as in move each wire one position to the left, try starting the engine, then shift them again if it is worse or the same. Just take note of where they are now before you try this. Be sure to have a water supply connected.

On this I meant did the new parts match the old parts in shape, size, etc.

I tried shifting the cables one spot at a time on the cap and still wouldn't start I'm getting fuel and spark the two just aren't meeting and igniting.
Parts all look the same as the old ones and are same size.
