Gas Springs for Engine Lid?

Howdy,

I am replacing my engine lid/sun deck on my 1986 Chris Craft 210. I can't read any stickers on the old springs. I think they are a series 20 Attwood with a 13mm ball socket. The old ones are 20" in length, and have about 8" of travel. But I have no idea of what type of pressure they should be.

Any idea how much pressure these things should be? Any other ideas on what I should be looking for?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Re: Gas Springs for Engine Lid?

i replaced my gas shocks that were used on a fairly large sunpad/engine cover with 60# shocks. these 2 shocks gave me a combined lift of 120# fully closed they were 12 inches- extended 20 inches. ii can't remember what brand they were but i found many places that carried them. hope this helps- bk

Try Napa. Bring an old lift shock in with you.

Thank for the response.
I checked out a few auto stores, and the springs they had all had the 10mm ball, and the boat has a 13mm ball.

I check out NAPA this week.
Thanks,
Bob

I'm guessing here, but since you have the 13MM ball mount for the gas springs they are probably high pressure, 80-120#? Attwood should have a listing of the gas shocks they make with their dimensions.
