I'm getting ready to take my Sting Ray merc 140 3.0 out for the winter and want to add stabaliser to the tank. My question is should I run the engine aftet putting it in and if so for how long.
Thanks

Yes, put it in the tank and run it for a while. While the boat is moving around it gets the gas and the stabilizer mixed up completely, plus the stabilizer gets into the carb and fuel pump as well.
Time is hard to judge. Depends on how many fuel filters how much fuel line etc. You need to run it long enough to replace all the fuel in everything from the tank to the carb.

Generally you put the stabilizer in, make sure it gets mixed in good (trailer it around the block, bouce it around, etc.) then run the engine to operating temp which assures the treated gas makes it to the carb.. I always run my carb. dry and fog it heavy when it's taking it's last breaths.

Thanks to you both for the quick reply, will follow your advice. Plan to go out one more time soon and will add it while still in the water.

Add it before your trip. Run some through the engine and use it repeatedly. It keeps the fuel system clean and the reduces carbon build up in the engine.

I always guesstimate how much fuel is left in the boat (by the way, I also add a correct amount of Marvel Mystery oil..can't hurt to have touch of oil coat the tank, but even if it don't work, I feel better about it), then take a gallon gas can with the mix, toss it in, and got for a fall ride and enjoy the last gasp of summer. Then run it to temp, change the oil, fog it, and then move on to the other billions of little things that need attention, cooling, batts, etc
