Need a little help... purchased a stamas open fisherman that had been sitting untouched for 4 years. Just finished rebuilding mercruiser inboard (ford 351/302), will be putting engine back in over the weekend. Question? what is the best procedure in regards to checking the gas tank prior to starting the engine?. Been sitting long time...how knows whats in there.

At the very Least, I'd pump them Clean,+ Refill with Fresh Gas....

Re: gas tank help

eddie - I'd make sure that I had a fresh water seperator/filter in the gas line..after following bondo's suggestion. I would also change the filter a couple of times during the breakin of the motor to be sure.

I would also take sending unit out and look inside of tank(with flashlight of course) and see if it is rusted or not
