Gas tank leaking from the sending unit gasket

My gas tank is leaking from the sending unit gasket. I replaced both at the dealer, but it's still leaking. My bilge fills with gas.

Question: Is there a material/putty, etc. that I can put around the gasket to seal it or does anybody have another suggestion along different lines?

Thanks,

Hi Tom,

you may need to replace your gasket (again) .....the following image is from West Marine and they're only about $5

You also may have stripped one of the screws which might require tapping the hole for the next size screw.

Also most gasket kits come with little teflon or nylon etc washers for each screw. Don't tighten them too much or they'll leak.

It should seal adequately with no "sealant".

After you seal it up you should pressure check the tank to check for leaks.

Thanks very much for your help, Rick! I'll replace it and check for the stripped hole. I also know for sure there's no washers of any kind on the screws, so I'll look for those as well. The dealer replaced this so I'll go back to them if I can't fix it myself. My summers are short.

Again, thanks for your time and knowledge,

Tom Toro
