Deck's going in next week and it's time to decide what to use for a fuel tank for my 60hp Merc on a 18' Starcraft.
Option 1 - Use the 18 gal (?) Mirax fuel tank (with level sender) that was in there when I bought it. It's rusty on the outside, so I'm guessing it probably needs attention on the inside too. I've done multiple motorcycle tanks using electrolysis/phosphoric acid etc, so this is nothing new. This tank was also plumbed to the filler in the splashwell. Had fuel in it last season and didn't leak.
Option 2 - Use 2 spare 6-gal portable plastic tanks that came with the outboard. No fuel gauge this route.
Option 3 - The guy who bought a trailer from me has an aluminum tank he'd sell me for $50. Don't know condition or size of it - he just mentioned it when we were talking.
I'm heading toward using the plastic tanks - I'd hate to deal with the fire hazard of a leaky tank in the middle of the lake.
Any input?
