Re: Gas treatment ?????

I have a Yamaha 150 2 stroke carbs.
I put starton and ringfree in with any gasoline I buy.
I buy all my gas from the same gas station.
I keep my tank full--the boat stays in the water year round, so it is exposed to temp fluctuations and high humidity.
I run the boat at least every weekend; in the winter every 2-3 weeks.
I just changed my fuel seperator after over 75 hours (big blue Yamaha) even though I had no issues; I poured the gas from it into a bottle to see what settled out, and found only a half teaspoon of water.

On another boat 70 HP OMC 25 year old motor I use every three months, the gas is mixed w/ oil in the tank. I am now using ethanol free gas. Treat with Stabil or startron. No problems. It sits in high humidity, uncovered (built-in tank).

Marine Sta-Bil (blue ethanol formula) at every fill-up.

Happy boating!

Always the blue sta-bil.

I personally use a little of the red sta-bil (maintenance dose) as well. Sometimes I don't use the boat for as long as a month so I like to have at least a little stabilizer in just in case my last trip really does end up being my last trip.

Note that none of this is really needed if you are using the boat enough to go through a tank every 2 weeks.

Red is a stabilizer, green is an ethanol treatment. Different products for different reasons.

I use Amsoil Fuel Stabilizer all the time. I only fill the amount of fuel of I think I'll use, 5 or 10 gallons, unless I know I'm gonna be burning a lot of fuel. On my IO I'll also use Amsoil PI (Performance I'mprover) fuel system cleaner once a year, on smaller 4 cycles and 2 cycles I own I always ad Amsoil Quick Shot SE to every fuel fill. My stuff runs like a dream.

Re: Gas treatment ?????

red works fine in the non ethanol world but thats dying fast. seafoam or startron serve both purposes in one shot.

Re: Gas treatment ?????

I was acquainted with Sea Foam by the Xperts on this site....that was 5 years ago. I put a generous portion into every tank of gas, whatever kind of gas it is and I haven't had a problem of any kind since using it. I also ensure that it is part of my other 2 cycle engines fuel supply on my farm. If it works..........

I use the Startron Diesel formula in my farm diesel tanks and have had similar stellar results....no fuel related problems on a new tractor and two 50 yrs old. If it works..........

I use Stabil pink/red in all my 4 cycle engines including my aux power units that get run once a year to keep them perkin.......... If it works..............

Startron or stabil marine in my I/O. I over treat it when I store my 60 gallon tank full for the off season.

Re: Gas treatment ?????

you could use the seafoam ( if you wish) in your 4 cycles and diesels.

as for the stabil. the marine stabil isnt just and ethanol treatment, it still stabilizes. red is for non ethanol which is a dying breed. my father used the rest of his red in his snowmobile end of this winter with ethanol fuel. i warned him but he didnt listen, now his sled will not start...

Red and Green Stabil are the exact same formulation. The only difference is the "marine" price and the green ?supposedly? has 4 times the cleaners; as if ethanol doesn't do a good enough job of cleaner your fuel system . I use whatever is on sale.

I have specifically read the marine stabil label and I do not believe that it stabilizes. I would go and verify right now (cause I would rather be wrong in this case) but right now I only have the stabil ethanol treatment, (not marine)

Re: Gas treatment ?????

Gee, red snake oil, green snake oil, blue snake oil. Any other colors? Anyone have any analysis showing the need for any of that stuff?

Just my opinion. You guys spend your $$ on that stuff as you see fit. The only proven good idea is to use the boat often, so the fuel is fresh, and take mechanical steps(water seperators, siphon out water) to assure the water doesn't reach the motor.

Re: Gas treatment ?????

cant use the boat often when the lakes have one foot or maybe 2 foot of ice on them from december til mid april. you may not need the stuff but i noticed a big difference on my boat when i cleaned it out with seafoam. and if you ever use it in you car or truck, not only in gas but through the master cylinder brake booster (sucks it into the intake manifold, valves etc) on an old car you would be sold. ive seen numerous tests etc etc. my biggest thing is when its not in use. and running it dry on gas has done me wrong before so i keep er wet
