Hi everyone, i just purchased a seamax 310 10.5ft sib. I also have a 4 hp 2 stroke suzuki motor, i have a bigger motor now because i think its entirely too slow, and im thinking of selling it. Im also thinking of keeping it and rolling up the sib and taking it to Florida on the intercoastal waterways for a vacation. Id get a rental car and it seems it would be a better idea to buy a trolling motor + battery for this purpose to avoid the gas and smells with the conventional outboard. I was thinking of a 55lb trolling motor. Would a bigger motor make a difference? Or would it be best to just stay with a gas powered outboard? Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forums,

A gas motor is better on a sib, forget about bat jumping on floor in choppy waters and more cruising autonomy, bigger engine like a 9.8 /9.9 would be even better, more punch and planing speed.

Gas fumes usually trail off behind the boat, but can occasionally follow the boat if the wind and speed conditions are just so. Usually not a problem while underway. I agree with Sea Rider about the battery issues. Plus, you can easily get more range with a gas boat, as it's much easier to carry an extra gallon of gas than an extra battery or 2. Good luck with your decision.
