gasket maker experiences/opinions?

I have redone the transom, stringers, floors, reinstalled the engine (4cyl I/O), cut the holes in transom and sealed, reinstalled steering.....

now it is time to reinstall the sterndrive. My patient is a 1969 OMC electric shift (I know, I know, that was my first mistake....) So, I'm looking at the options for gaskets (such as between the bellhousing and the intermediate drive and they seem a bit hard to find.

options:
1. get a sheet of gasket material and cut my own.
2. use a permatex liquid gasket maker product

Has anyone used these liquid gasket makers? A friend is reassembling a 1969 Datsun roadster engine and he has some of this. comes in a pressurized can and the label sez it is 'elastomerized rubber' and resists oil, gas, etc..., and tolerates up to 260 degrees celsius. Sounds like it would fit the bill, but would like to hear from others who have actually used it for a while....

Permatex is a good product and I have used it for years.

I would get a sheet a material and make my own. Don't get material too thick and I would use high heat rtv gasket sealant.
