Hi, question on a 2001 sx drive. I'm getting water in my driveshaft bellow and can't find where it is coming from. All new rubber last year, so bellow looks great, zerk tube is tight. My buddy said I should have a gasket between the transom and outdrive like omc and Merc. But there wasn't one on my Volvo penta. Called marinas and they don't see one in the drawings. How does it keep water out? Help please I can't find anything on the this.....

Many thanks,
Craig

Re: gasket or not?

Gaskets are for OMC and Mercruiser drives, you have a Volvo. No gasket.

Water is kept out of the bellows by the nose of the drive sealing against the bellows.

Re: gasket or not?

When was the last time you had a new bellows? Figure them for 5 or 6 years at best.
You won't be able to see a leak from the bellows if it's failed where the drive seats agains it.

when i understand him right he said last year .

did you verified that the surface area where the drive nose seals against the bellows was from both sides clean and smooth when reinstalled the drive ?

btw - your buddy is wrong with the gasket on the sx, definitly no gasket there like don stated correctly, i was also surprized when pulling first time my sx.

Re: gasket or not?

Thanks guys. Correct bellows and hoses changes preseason last year. Have you guys seen where the drive doesn't seal well against a new bellows? Maybe they put an aftermarket bellow in???? Maybe I should just replace the bellow again...It has to be it.

I'd pull the drive and inspect it again- hard to see a cut in all those ripples or maybe its loose. Pull it off, inspect it closely and re-install after verifying its the correct one for your application
