Gasket Sealing Compound

Getting ready to do some maintenance on a 1976 OMC stringer 140hp. The manual suggests using OMC Gasket Sealing Compound on gaskets and bolt threads. Any suggestions on other type of gasket sealer to use? Is automotive type acceptable?

I am sure there are other acceptable sealers ,but since you will have to buy some anyway why not just get the recommended one.Charlie

if you can't get the recommended stuff, Perfect Seal and Permatex 300 series are good products..
