Gasket under Anode A1Gen2

Hello boaters,
I have a question, Ive got 2005 Alpha One Gen 2 and every year I remove anodes and clean them,
now Ive noticed gasket under the anode but i dont have it. Do I need it? Whats for??

Normally not needed unless your going to remove the trim cylinder manifold
