know that its very hard to help diagnose a problem without seeing it firsthand.but i need some advise and this is the best place to get it.

I have a 1996 Mercury 115hp outboard. It has 4 cylindars. On the carbs there appears to be a vent hole beside the adjustment screw. On the bottom 2 carbs gas is leaking out at a failry good pace while the motor is running. It starts fine and idles well. The problem is ofcourse the gas but it just wont go when its throttled up on the water.

Any advice on what the problem could be? Is it fatal for the motor? Expensive to fix?

Hopefully someone here has seen this before and can offer some help!!

Ahoy, Matt.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Sounds a lot like stuck floats or float needles in those carbs. Easy to fix with carb cleaning and overhaul kits.

Thanks JB!!!

I am not real savy with outboard motors. What is included with an overhaul kit? Is it a rebuild or just new gaskets and such.

Thank you very much for the help and God Bless!!!!

Through trial and error, I found the floats were stuck on the 3rd and 4th carb. After wrestling them off, cleaned them out and it runs great now.
