Hi, on my '79 50 hp mercury there is on both carburators this little screw wich i assume is for changing the air/benzine mixture.

Can any one tell me what the correct setting for this is or at least a base setting from where i can continue?

I noticed that on the lower carb this screw what a little turned out and on the upper carb it was totally screwed in.
is this normal?

I also noticed that the motor does not have a lot of power in the lower regions, can this has something to do with this air mixture setting?

Thanks for any replies.

Marc.

Turn them out about 1-1/4 turns from in all the way. That should be a good starting poit. Then start it up at idle and turn them in or out for best idle. If one or both do little or no difference you have the curb idle too high (butterflies open too far)or your idle circuits within the carbs are probably plugged.
