gass stabalizer is methyl hydrate. otherwise known methanal, or meythl alcohol, or wood alchohol.

they're all the same thing

methanal and ethanal are both verry bad for 2 stroke motors. says so in my owner manual.

Re: gassoline

Run the lowest octane fuel you can without detonation. The higher the octane the slower and less complete the burn.

c/6
Hooty

Re: gassoline

any idea what could be causing this

I've been using premium 7-11 gass, [/QB]
I have a couple of thoughts that may help.

First- Sometimes cheap gasoline like 7-11 turns out not to be so cheap!! Try burning a name brand gasoline. I use and recommend Chevron. Their cleaning additive (Techron ®) has been well known and excepted for years.

Second- Again, what I use and recommend is burning mid-grade (89 octane) gasoline.

Perhapes I've just been lucky all these years but, using 89 octane Chevron, I've never had a gasoline related problem.

Guess I should mention that, other than as a purchaser, I have no monetary connection to Chevron. :)

Good luck.

Re: gassoline

There is little to no difference between the fuels a person buys from station to station. All fuels are moved throughout the country in the same pipeline system, and are all so close as to what additives are added that it really makes no difference. Fuel intended for a Cheveron substation can often have fuel mixed in with fuel intended for an Exxon substation. They put the additives in at the substation, the trucks come and get it, and take it to the individual gas stations. What does make a difference is the individual gas station itself. If the storage tanks and pumps are poorly maintained you can get contaminated fuel. Usually I just look for a station that looks well maintained and thats all I need.

Re: gassoline

Im in Canada and have never seen chevron or exon staiton. the major refiners up here are Petrocanada, shell and esso and co-op.

its verry common to buy gas with ethanol/methonal allready blended in up here. Especially in the winter when a lot of stations sell winter gas

Re: gassoline

Have to disagree JasonJ.

The difference between major brands of gasoline is the additives. These additives are blended with the fuel after purchase from the refineries.

You will find Techron ® in no gasoline other than Chevron.

Like I said, maybe I've just been lucky but I've never had a problem with Chevron. Can't say the same about other major brands I've used in the past.

Hmmm...

Sounds as if my information is sadly outdated.

I stand corrected. :)
