Hello everybody,

I am about to buy a used, 1992, Sea Ray 330 Sundancer with twin 260HP mercr. 5.7/V8.
These engines are "connected" with the surface by V-drive's.
My question to you all is:
What is the average gasusage p/h p/e?
The gasprices in the Netherlands are extremely high compared to the US.
I have been told by the dealer it's about 7 litres p/h for one engine at normal cruising speed
Is this correct?
At higher speeds i have been told it's about 15 to 25 litres p/h for one engine.

Can anybody tell me if this correct, or is it just a dealer trying to sell me a boat?

Re: Gasusage

If I have this right, 25 litres =(6.8 Gal US) and would be a very low estimate at higher speed or WOT. Of course, as you would probably run at cruising speeds most of the time, it would be less. Normally, you can figure about 10% of your HP for GPH usage. So as far as U.S. Gallons go, you would use around 25-26 gallons(or 98 litres) per hour at full speed per engine.. Correct me if I'm wrong on these conversions..

Re: Gasusage

Thanks Rick,
Your conversion is right.
I think i will be using about 1.5 us gallons per engine at cruising speeds.
This is acceptable for me.
The full speed gasusage is high, but like you said running at those speeds is rare.

Thanks again
Regards Evert

Re: Gasusage

I cant even fathom thinking about a boat that would burn anywhere near 50 Gals Per Hour at WOT. Are there really people with that much money to spend on boating?
----------------------------------
EvertatHolland

We may have a misunderstanding here on your last comment. You will probably use about 20-25 U.S. Gallons per hour at cruising speed using both engines, of course. 1.5 gallons may get you out of the harbor if it's a short ride... Maybe... You will use 50 GPH (U.S.) at full throttle using both engines and 20-25 GPH (U.S.) at cruising speed. Hope that clarifies what we are talking about...

Re: Gasusage

Evert we work with litres down here too. 44 gallons is 200 litres. When cruising you should use about 110 litres per hour. Start saving. What does fuel cost in Holland. We pay ZAR 4.50 per litre at the moment.
