Good morning,

I have a 1992 201 Liberator and I'm looking to upgrade the gauges. I was wondering if after market gauges will work with the standard wiring, or if all new wires / connections will be needed.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Can't say this applies to all makes, but I know that I tried to swap out a gauge last year and found that different year gauge had a different connector. Check the connector before purchasing. You may need to change the plug as well.

Agree with Jeep that this can be an issue. Another thing is the senders can be of different values but not in all cases. I will assume that the water temp, oil pressure will come with new senders so just replace them. The fuel gauge can be another issue. Make sure to note what values are used with your current gauge and compare with the new ones your looking at.

Let us know if you have any other questions and be sure to post pics, We here all love pics :D

Thank you for the information. I will do some research on what I have vs. What I'm looking to install and report back with more info.

I replaced all my gauges last summer. New gauges don't necessarily come with senders. Mine did not. The factory senders/sensors worked just fine. After I disassembled the dash plate, I actually replaced one gauge at a time so I didn't mix up the wiring. IF you do mix up the wiring, there is a post on here with the wire colors to gauge connections.

I've never seen new gages sold with the senders. But you should be jet fine, your boat isn't that old. I've put new gages in a couple of boats and never had an issue with the sender not being compatible with the new gage. The tach will have a switch that you'll have to make sure is set correctly for the number of cylinders your motor has, but that's about it. Any connectors that are different, just cut the old connector off the boat wring and crimp on the correct one. Just make sure the gage diameters match the cut-outs in your boats dash, but again I doubt they'll be different.
