I sold my other boat today, or should I say gave it away. It was a 1979 Thundercraft ss 180 with a 140 hp mercury IO. Everything worked real well. It had a bow cover, convertible top with side windows and rear cover as well. I also included the storm cover that went from the windshield to the rear of the boat. I also gave him a new optima battery. I had the lower unit resealed this fall as I had no intention of selling this boat. The only reason I did is because I got a larger one this winter. A new to me Starcraft superfisherman 19 footer. So I sold it for 1500.00 with trailer that had two new tires and rims. All in good shape. So I think I gave it away. What do you guys think. Did I give him a great deal or what. By the way it had good floors and hull. Stored indoors it the pole barn.

Well, even though you're freely admitting to have given it away; I'm sure the new owner will be accused of stealing your boat;).

You're a generous man.

If it makes you feel better, the transom probably fell off before he got home. :)
Did you at least fill the tank and include a radar?

As long as both parties are happy with the deal, it doesn't matter. Enjoy the new boat!

Re: Gave one away today

Several years ago I sold my old boat (without motor) for a song. I wasn't too interested in the money but just finding a new home for it and making room for my new boat. I felt good helping a younger guy to buy his first boat, no matter the discount. Last year I ran into him again and, wow, he turned that thing into almost a new boat. I was impressed and really happy to help this guy achieve his dream. Sometimes giving things away can just make you feel good.

No that boat was very sound, I used it for the last 5 years, twice a year with my young kids in Canada. I made sure it was always maintained well. I needed to depend on it for the life of my kids. I had no intenetion of selling it, however this December I could not resist the price of the 19' superfisherman starcraft. So it went to a good home, the guy seems like a nice guy. His first boat.

Age is not an issue..I have seen some 5 year old boats that aren't even worth a 3rd of that due to negligent owners.

But to Mphy98..
You did sell her low, but look at all the happy memories you passed along to the new guy.
Call me if you ever want to "unload" the SC..lol
