gear case reseal

motor is a QD17 1956 low end has a small seal 1-1/8OD so I take it the unit has been updated.. I should order a seal kit for 58 and up?

??----The 58 and newer models use a different gearcase.------Was there a number on the old seal off the QD-17 ??

Not that I could make out... I was under the impression the newer models used a smaller OD output shaft seal... mine is 1.125 it should be a 1.250.. right?

Well------The lower unit on your QD-17 could be as new as a 76 model 25 HP motor.------I do not know what you have on there.----Sorry , can be of no more help on this matter.

Oh well guess I'll have to take a guess... my thoughts were there were only two possible seal kits that would fit... I'll just pick up a later model kit and hope for the best... thought there would be some old timers in here that would know.. or it's been asked to death... I did search around...

this is what I had read about the seals..

22-30001 - Gear case seal kit, with 1.25 OD propeller shaft seal, fits Johnson/Evinrude; Johnson QD models 10 hp 1949 -1957, 1956 15 hp, 1957 18 hp (except FDE11K use 302545 p/s seal); Evinrude 1956 15hp, 1957 10 hp to #11000, 18hp to #22000 after this # use p/s seal 313284 1.125 OD
