gear case seal removal difficulty

I am haveing trouble removing the seals to the gearcase on my 4hp johnson. They are stuck and I dont want to get too aggresive for fear of banging up the walls of the housing. Can anyone give me a hint on how to get these guys out?

Check with your local auto parts dealer or marine dealer for a seal removal tool. With this tool, it is relatively easy to pry the seal out.
