i was told i should start a new topic for this new problem so here goes. i changed the water pump and the gear oil in the lower unit and took it out for a test ride. it all seemed to work but when i checked the gear oil it turned white. i didn't go far and it was working well as i took it out so no damage im pretty sure of that. i don't know where the water got in but there was a bit of oil came out the weep hole right by the shift shaft so i was assuming maybe the shift shaft bushing? but how do i know and where all can it be getting water in?
so i also could use a hand finding this gear seal kit my boat motor model number is 857HE i think it is 1973 and it is a chrysler 85hp outboard if anyone can help i thank you in advance.

The weep hole is for anything that leaks down from the motor.
The shift shaft seal might be leaking? but the stuff you see might be unburned gas/oil?
It's easier if the drive is off and drained.
There is 8 different places that a 2 piece drive can leak.

I use a mix of Dawn soap and water sprayed on the seals when adding compressed air
You don't need a lot of pressure to make it leak.
10# or less should do it.

Do the test and post the results.
