Two newbie questions:
1. Is there a difference between High performance Gear lube 92-858064Q01 and 92-858064K01. Both say quicksilver but one has yellow label and one is black label. Are they the same? Can I mix them?
2. Changing my Impellar for the first. I have the service manual for the Alpha one Gen 2. Seems pretty straight forward, but any tips or watch outside from those that have done the replacement themselves?

Thanks in advance for the input!

Counting down to being able to splash for the first time this year!

The one with the Q in it is under the quicksilver label, the other is under the mercury marine label.

quicksilver products are sold by non mercury marine dealers. Same products just a way for Merc to get products placed outside their dealer/repair network

my my local Walmart carries the quicksilver year lube

When reinstalling your drive's lower half to the upper half, make sure the water tube coupler lines up. It's a plastic coupling. When I did my impeller the first time, that plastic coupling was melted and distorted. A previous owner must have starved the drive of water cooling which melted it.

You want the high performance gear lube. It's the one that's greenish blue in color. Not the premium gear lube which is the color of normal engine oil.

When I changed the lube in fall the old was amberish but used the Merc Hp blue green stuff when I replaced it. My gut told me the K vs Q in the part number was a minor revision, but wanted to run it by the 000s of hours more experience than me. Thanks again for the advice and look alive tomorrow as I change the impeller 😄

I have always heard that high performance is synthetic, the other stuff isn't.

Maybe useless to most on here...but in the U.K. there is a fair bit of confusion over the whole gear oil thing. As we know there is high performance and premium labelled bottles from quicksilver. They are usually both the bluey green colour here. Also confused further by some bottles being labelled differently. The old stock of high performance stuff had a yellow colour on it and the new just has silver I’m sure. Weird but true. All quicksilver gear oil I’ve ever used here has been the bluey green colour no matter which of the two it has been.
