I recently found out I had water in my gear lube and I'm sure further damage has been done. I'm only familiar with winterizing by flushing with antifreeze through the outdrive. Is there any other way to winterize the engine without further damage becuase of the gear lube problem or can I winterize as normal and not worsen any gear/shaft problems?
Thanks

ya need to let everyone know engine/drive package you have.

at the very least. you should drain the gear lub and replace it. you should also find out why you have water in your gear lub.

for the engine. you need to empty all the water out of the cooling system. there are drain plugs that can be removed letting the water out. there may places that you need to remove a hose to let the water out. the key is get the water out of it. you don't have to use anti freeze and many don't. you just need to be sure there is no water in the system. once it's nothing but air in you cooling system your safe, because air don't freeze..

have you got a service manual for whatever engine drive/package your have? it's a must have tool to service whatever ya got..

Why don't you winterize the engine as you normally do, then pull the drive and put it indoors so you can determine the cause over the off-season. It's going to have to come off anyway if there's water in the lube....and it's quite easy to remove.

I see from your other post that you have a Mercruiser with an Alpha drive.
I would bet you have water in the bellows, which is how the water may have gotten in the drive oil.
As far as running antifreeze through the engine from the drive, NOT a good idea on a raw water cooled engine.
Go up to the adults only or DIY sticky at the top of this forum and read the winterizing posts and download the manuals for your engine. From the sounds of your posts, I think you really need to.
