Gear Lube Leak on Alpha 1 gen 1

I must have done something wrong. :-( I recently removed the outdrive to replace my impeller for this season. removed outdrive, connected the lower and upper, then installed complete unit. re-filled with fresh gear oil. Now it's leaking from the seam between the upper and lower. What did I forget?

You forgot the quad ring. It goes between the upper and lower to seal the oil passage between the 2. It's about a 1/4" in diameter, and easy to miss at assembly.
You can drain the unit, loosen all the bolts that hold it together and let it open up about 1/8" or so, slip it in there and bolt it back up. It's on the stb side of the drive.
